SwordThe sword played a big role in Ancient China's battles, as it was one of the common weapons used by the soldiers in the army. These swords were roughly 70 - 100cm long. Chinese swords are classified in two groups: Jian and Dao. Jian being a dual edged blade and Dao single. The sword to the right is a Jian Sword.

SpearThe spear or 'Qiang' was another commonly used weapon in Ancient China by foot soldiers and cavalry. These spears were made of hard wood and had leaf shaped bronze tips. The red tassels attached, where the wooden shaft meets the blade, weren't for decoration. They were actually to distract the opponent so they couldn't keep track of the spear, and to soak up the blood that dripped down the blade onto the shaft. This prevented it from becoming sticky.

HalberdThe Ancient Chinese halberd or 'Ji' was a cross between a spear and an axe. It was commonly used by infantry but also by cavalry and charioteers. There were many different ways to use a halberd: you could drive the point straight into someone, slice them with the axe blade, hit them with the shaft then hook them in the gap between the axe blade and shaft. You could even slap someone off their horse with the flat side of the blade.

CrossbowThe Ancient Chinese mostly used the repeating crossbow or 'Lian Nu' in warfare. It was a crossbow with a magazine on the top filled with bolts. By pulling the lever back and forward the bowstring was drawn back and a bolt fed into the chamber, then fired. The Chinese bolts were light and small making them not very deadly. The tips were dipped in poison so that a small wound would still be fatal.
